Mentored Duck Hunt

This is a mentored waterfowl workshop featuring ducks, and is being offered as a partnership between the Virginia Hunter Education Association, the Virginia DWR and Shady Grove Kennel. Limited to 15 participants. Advance registration is required, cost is $100.00. Open to anyone who wants to learn how to waterfowl hunt.

  • Open to anyone who wants to learn how to upland bird hunt
  • Minimum age is 14, no maximum age. Anyone under 18 is required to have a guardian attending the entire event.
  • ALL participants must have completed a Hunter Education Course, provide proof, and have a valid Virginia hunting license
  • Participants will need to provide their own shotgun and shotgun ammunition
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided

A complete list of things to bring will be provided at time of registration.The day will begin with gun safety followed by the biology and hunting of waterfowl, instruction on hunting over dogs, and a practice live fire session on Shady Grove’s acclaimed sporting clays course. Participants will then go afield for the mentored live hunt which includes one guide/instructor for each hunter, and dogs and handlers in the field. The event will conclude with field dressing, prepping, and tips on how to cook the game. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Must secure registration by paying with a credit card within three days of registration. No refunds.
